Your Guide to a Delightful December at the Library

Spend December with us by browsing our collection, keeping warm, attending programs and more.

Picture this: It’s a chilly December day when you walk into the library’s warm space. You pick up a basket and browse our shelves. Wait! There’s a program—and they’re serving hot cocoa. You sit a spell and take in the ambiance: shuffling feet, scooting carts, rustling pages, families chattering, the quiet hum of the heater and a couple whispering about their favorite books.

We hope you visit any of our four branches this season. Read on for reasons that the library is the perfect place to hang out this winter.

Stay Warm

Our buildings are a resource in and of themselves. As the weather grows colder, libraries serve as warming centers. No matter the reason, the library is here for those who need a free place to stay warm. Come inside, get toasty and use our other resources while you’re at it.

Attend a Program

Looking to get into the holiday spirit this month?

One highlight is the Newport Branch’s Jolabokaflod, which is inspired by the Icelandic tradition of gifting books with the intention of them being read on Christmas Eve. Held on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 am-2 pm, come pick out a book while enjoying music, a hot chocolate bar and a photo area.

There’s also plenty of crafts this month. Decorate your home with handmade trinkets like gingerbread people in disguise, cozy cards, tea light snowmen, wooden nutcracker paintings and more.

Oh, and if cookies are your favorite part of the holiday season, we’ve got you covered! Teens can head to the Newport Branch on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 3 pm to decorate cookies and then watch a movie. Children can paint while snacking on Santa-approved cookies on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 pm at the Newport Branch.

We can’t wait to see you this month!

Browse Our Displays

Looking for inspiration? Browse our displays for your next great read! If you’re looking to hunker down at home this winter, each branch will have a “Hibernate with a Big Book” display this month. It’s the perfect way to find a long read that will keep you entertained all December long.

If you’re still looking for ideas, our staff is happy to offer recommendations. You can even find some by browsing NoveList or by following our social media @campbellkylib.
