We Suggest: Books We Wish We Could Read for the First Time Again

Many avid readers have that book they wish they could return to as a blank slate.

We asked our staff about books they wish they could read for the first time again. Here are their answers.

Books We Wish We Could Read for the First Time Again

Sadie by Courtney Summers

This is a multi-POV thriller that left me feeling like there was a looming clock ticking down to something terrible and I needed to figure it out before it was too late. Courtney Summers has a way of writing characters and situations with a lot of emotion and authenticity that makes it hard to stop reading. Now I live vicariously through everyone I convince to read this book.

The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain

This book was so full of wonderful twists and turns that I never saw coming! It’s a little bit sci-fi, a little bit contemporary fiction, and all around a great read. If you want a book that will make you gasp out loud, repeatedly, this is it!

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I read that book for the first time in high school and loved how it was narrated by Death; it was a unique concept to me at the time to have Death be the narrator for a book about World War II. Toward the end of the book, a big event happens and it shook me to my core. I was in the middle of class, got to that part and had to put the book away for a while to collect myself. That book has stayed with me over a decade later.

North Woods by Daniel Mason

North Woods is a masterpiece that made me experience hundreds of years’ worth of nature and history all in less than four hundred pages. The first time I read this I was left in awe both by Mason’s ability as an author and how I was made to think about myself and my own relationship with the world around me, and I wish that I could have that first-time experience again.
