Prep for a New School Year with the Library!
Hey, teachers: Back-to-school season has arrived. The library is here to help you prepare your classroom for the school year ahead.
Read on for a guide on library resources for teachers.
Teacher Cards
Along with a personal library card, educators can easily sign up for a Teacher Card to use for their classroom. You don’t have to live or teach in Campbell County to sign up for a Teacher Card; all you need is current proof of employment or verification of homeschool participation.
Teacher Cards are available to those working in adult education, K-12 public/private schools, childcare centers and organizations for individuals with disabilities.
Request Books
If you’re in need of books for a project or assignment in your classroom, let us help you! With a week’s notice, library staff can pull books, audio and visual materials for you to check out and use in your classroom. We can pull books for your students!
To place a collection request, fill out the form at cc-pl.org/teacher-collection-request.
Story Time Kits
Aimed at young ones, Story Time Kits are the perfect way to get children engaged with learning.
Each themed kit contains books, manipulatives, music CDs or DVDs, flannel board sets, and a folder with activity guides and early literacy tips. The thematic activity guides provide suggestions for crafts, games, songs and rhymes that can be used to enhance the use of the kit materials and support early literacy skill building.
These kits may be checked out by childcare providers, in-home providers, preschools and patrons with Teacher Cards.
There are over 40 available Story Time Kits. Topics include bedtime, classic tales, colors, dinosaurs, the five senses, music, nursery rhymes, pets, school, weather and more.
Online Resources
Do you need help giving your students a place to access online resources for research assignments? Send them our way! The library has over a dozen databases that can be accessed from school or home with a library card and its password.
Databases include Academic Search Complete, EBSCO’s K-8 ebook Collection, Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints, TOPICsearch, Middle Search Plus, LearningExpress and more. You can also access dozens of current magazines, newspapers and more through the library—both in print and digitally.
Take a Trip to the Library!
Need to get out of the classroom? We give tours of our branches to school groups! For younger students, tours include stories and a tour of our collection. Older students are taught how to use the online catalog, web resources and more. Call any branch to schedule a visit.
Library staff can also visit you to provide stories and other activities to your classroom. If you’re interested, request a visit a few weeks in advance by calling.
