We often think of human evolution as a long and complicated story, but the basic ways that new species might form can be seen in organisms, even as tiny as single-celled algae called diatoms. This presentation will explore how new species might arise in the natural world, in a process called speciation. Dr. Joshua Cooper will talk about some of the exciting research being conducted at Northern Kentucky University in partnership with University of Texas at Austin about these amazing organisms, that give us insights into other species, including our own.
Exploring Human Origins
What does it mean to be human? How do we answer this complex question? Come explore this question while learning about evolution and early humans at this travelling Smithsonian exhibit. Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human? seeks to foster a positive dialogue with people from different cultural perspectives. The goal is to enable a respectful exploration into the science of human origins through panels, interactive kiosks, hands-on displays, videos, and a series of free related programs, including presentations by Smithsonian scientists.
