City Barbeque Food for Thought Series: The Underground Railroad and Setting In Motion the Early Civil Rights Movement in Northern Kentucky and the Nation

Dr. Eric Jackson of the NKU History and Geography Department will be coming back to the Cold Spring Branch to speak with us about the local Underground Railroad. This presentation will focus on how Underground Railroad activities in Northern Kentucky rested on and highlight several key issues, ideas, and a philosophical framework that set the stage for foundation of the nation’s early Civil Rights movement. Underground Railroad in Campbell, Kenton, and Boone Counties will be used to illustrate this point in great detail. Register now as spots are limited!

About the Presenter:
Dr. Eric Jackson will explore the facts surrounding how legend, mythology, and invention affected enslavement and the Underground Railroad in Northern Kentucky and the surrounding regions.
With almost twenty-five years of academic experience at the university level, Dr. Jackson teaches in the fields of American and African American History/Studies, Race Relations, and Peace Studies. He has over fifty publications, including in journals such as Africology: The Journal of Pan African Studies, the Journal of African American History, and the International Journal of World Peace. Dr. Jackson recently received two awards for his community outreach work: the Goodwill Ambassador for the Golden Rule Award (2016) and the Second International World Civility Award from Change Nations (2017).
