This DIY tutorial was created by Samantha Rouse, our Carrico/Fort Thomas Branch’s adult/teen services programmer. If you have any questions about the tutorial, please email her at SRouse@cc-pl.org.
Materials Needed
Step 1
Take your flexible straw and cut it in half.
Step 2
Cut a small slit in the hole on the juice pouch where the straw goes. Take your juice pouch and rinse it, making sure to squeeze any remaining water out.
Step 3
Insert the straw into the hole you have cut a slit into. Take your tape and secure the straw on with a strip of tape going across the top where you put your straw in. You may want to place a strip on the back of the pouch as well.
Step 4
Now you are ready to begin making your rocket! Take your construction paper and cut a strip out of it. Loosely roll paper around the straw. Tape the end so it won’t unroll.
Bend the tip and then tape it down so air can’t escape. An alternative to this method would be to take something like a piece of modeling clay and plug up the straw as shown in the photo at the top of the tutorial.
Step 5
Color your rocket template then cut it out. Once you have done that, tape your construction paper tube to the center of the back of your rocket.
Step 6
Blow into your straw to fill the juice pouch up with air. Slide your rocket onto the straw and stomp away!
