Cards for Seniors

Spread festive cheer this holiday season to older adults with handmade cards.

Program details

When: Nov. 1-30

Where: All Campbell County Public Library Branches

Simple gestures can brighten the day of older adults. That’s the premise of the library’s returning program, Cards for Seniors, which aims to get handmade greeting cards into the hands of local seniors.

Starting Nov. 1 and running through Nov. 30, patrons may use provided supplies to make festive cards, which will be delivered to local seniors by library staff throughout the month. Materials are available in the children’s area of the Carrico/Fort Thomas, Newport and Alexandria branches; in Cold Spring, the items are in the lounge area near the public computers.

According to the CDC, loneliness is a serious public health risk that affects a significant portion of older adults in the United States. They are more likely to experience loneliness due to factors like living alone, the death of family or friends, chronic illness and hearing loss. Community outreach for older adults is vital in combatting such loneliness. Though it may feel small, reaching out through a thoughtful card can make a big impact in making individuals feel cared for.
