Local Photography Featured on Library Cards

Our new library cards are now available! The new cards feature images of the community and our mascot, Cam the Library Lion.

Patrons can select a card featuring Cam the Library Lion or a scene of the Belle of Louisville and Northern Kentucky. A third choice is available at specific Branches:

• Newport patrons can select a photo of the cannon at Campbell County Courthouse, 4th and York, Newport.
• At Fort Thomas, patrons can choose the tower at the entrance to Tower Park at South Fort Thomas Avenue and Douglas Drive in Fort Thomas.
• And at Cold Spring, patrons can choose a photo of the log cabin at Northern Kentucky University on Louie B. Nunn Drive in Highland Heights.

“Campbell County is really a pretty place with a lot of cool visual elements.  With nearly 60,000 library card holders, we thought it would be neat to way to showcase our community using distinctive photography of various locations,” said JC Morgan, Library director.

The photos were taken by Bruce Crippen, a career newspaper photographer who covered news, sports and feature stories for 30 years at The Cincinnati and Kentucky Post.  He is now a freelance photographer and teaches his craft at Northern Kentucky University, the University of Cincinnati and Antonelli College. Crippen used a high dynamic range technique, taking multiple photos of the same image with different exposures and blended them together, creating a greater range of luminosity.

 

 

Cam the Library Lion has been a familiar face to patrons since his debut as the Library’s mascot in 2015. Cam is the creation of artist and illustrator Nick Gressle.

New patrons can stop by one of our branches to get your Library Card application. All that is required is a picture ID and proof of address.  Lost or damaged cards can be replaced for a $1 fee. There is no charge to replace a stolen or worn out card.
