Have you heard? Legends are afoot at the library this month.
Legends at the Library
Fantastical creatures are taking over the library this month! Each branch will host a program and scavenger hunt geared for grades 5-12.
To celebrate, we asked our staff to recommend their favorite young adult or middle grade fantasy read. Find their suggestions below.
Young Adult & Middle Grade Fantasy
Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin
Lou le Blanc flees her coven, forsaking all magic, to hide in Cesarine, where witches are feared, hunted and burned. Sworn to the church, Reid Diggory upholds the Chasseur’s motto: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. When their paths cross and the two are caught in a compromising position, Lou and Reid are forced to wed. A witch married to a witch hunter, what could go wrong?
– Bekah Napier, patron services assistant
The Iron Trial by Holly Black & Cassandra Clare
The series consists of five books, which are all fairly short. The language is so quick and easy to read. I flew through these books and was so sad when I reached the end because I wanted to keep reading them forever!
– Danielle Heiert, adult/teen services programmer
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
This is a great first book in a series! It’s angsty with strong characters and it engrosses you until the end.
– Dakota Guilkey, information services assistant
A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid
Effy Sayre has always believed in fairy tales. So, when the opportunity arises to redesign the estate of Emrys Myrddin, the late author of her most beloved book, how could she not give it a try? But her task quickly grows more daunting as she navigates the dark history of the author, the legends of the estate, and the hostility of the manor’s current residents. This book is so atmospheric and will prove difficult to put down.
– Stephanie Daugherty, technical services specialist
