Danielle visited CCMS for the monthly #CCMSReads book club. This month, we discussed Hummingbird by Natalie Lloyd, which one of the students suggested! It was a fantastic read following sixth-grader Olive, who has osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), also known as brittle bone disease, as she attends public school for the first time in her life. There is a magical hummingbird in town which will grant a wish if you find it, and the townspeople say that it will appear on the night of the Blue Moon Festival. Olive and her friends set out to find the hummingbird and make their wishes. It was a super cute read with a great conversation about not making assumptions about what someone is capable of doing. After the discussion, we played the card game We Didn’t Playtest This At All, which is a new fan favorite! 🙂 Next month is our last meeting of the school year, and we will discuss Savvy by Ingrid Law.
