Short Story Collections & Novellas
The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor Lavalle
This novella is only 149 pages long, has a really spooky setting and takes place around the 1920s. A retelling of a Lovecraftian tale, it takes a new twist and is a really fun time!

The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe, Vol. 2
“The Cask of Amontillado” keeps me on the edge of my seat every time I read it. Poe does such a good job at giving the audience hints on what will happen next and keeping the characters in the dark of the others intentions. The ending is terrifying and, in a way, very satisfying.

Skeleton Crew by Stephen King
King is best in short story form, and this particular collection contains “The Jaunt,” one of the best existential horror stories I’ve encountered.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Before the Coffee Gets Cold is about a small café with a special piece of magic. If you sit in one specific seat, you can travel back in time, but you must return to the present before your coffee gets cold. As we watch four different customers revisit key moments in their life, we also must ask ourselves: “If I could go back, would I? And would anything about me or my circumstances change, for better or for worse, after going back?” Perfect for those who are prone to existential life crises and/or are often blown away by how intricately lives are woven together!
