Choose Your Winter Vibe

Let the library play matchmaker… with books and movies, of course! Choose your winter vibe below and we’ll tell you what to settle into this holiday season, hot cocoa in hand.

Ultimate Coziness

Hallmarks: Fuzzy socks, roaring fireplace, gatherings with loved ones, minimalist decor, crisp bundled-up walks

If you dream of coziness and comfort, check out The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. Hygge is a Danish term that refers to evoking a warm atmosphere of comfort and well-being through shared time with loved ones and life’s simple pleasures. The term especially comes into play for getting through the long, cold months of winter.

Cheesy Holiday Romance Goodness

Hallmarks: Rewatching holiday movies for the umpteenth time, looking at lights/decorations, movie marathons at home

The holiday season is prime time for feel-good romantic comedies. If you love rewatching flicks like The Holiday or Love Actually—both are in our collection—every year, consider cozying up with Let It Snow. The YA book features three intertwined short stories set during a snowstorm in a small town by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle. Head to Netflix afterward to watch the movie adaptation.

Hitting the Slopes… or the rink!

Hallmarks: Ice skating, winter hikes, skiwear, oversized puffer jackets, frolicking in the snow

If you’re into winter sports, check out Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. The novel follows competitive figure skater Anatasia, whose eyes are set on landing a spot on Team USA. Then there’s hockey captain Nathan. When their two teams have to share a rink, antics ensue—and maybe even romance.

Cable Knit Sweaters, Everywhere!

Hallmarks: Old money aesthetics, another cup of coffee, playing board games—especially Clue

Despite the murder mystery, Knives Out is strangely cozy—mostly because of the ensemble cast of character’s warm scarves and sweaters. I’m looking at you Chris Evans. Rewatchable and fun, it’s the perfect movie to get lost in on a snowy, cold day.
