How to Achieve Your 2022 Reading Goals
It’s a new year, which means it’s time to set new reading goals for 2022.
While the number of books you’re aiming to complete doesn’t matter, what does is continuing to work toward your yearly reading goal. Below are tips to help you achieve your reading aspirations in 2022. Once you hit your goal, don’t forget to celebrate… with a good book!
Schedule a Book Date
Whether you’re a morning person who likes to read while sipping your coffee at breakfast or want to wind down by reading before bed, devote a designated time each day solely to reading. Turn off all other distractions and just enjoy the words in front of you.
Check Out an Audiobook
A nice way to achieve your reading goal is to add audiobooks into your daily life. Listen to a book while you exercise or during your work commute. You can find a wide selection of audiobooks in our collection.
We have audiobooks available on CDs that can be borrowed from any of our library branches as well as eaudiobooks that can be checked out through our digital collection. If you need help accessing our digital branch, take a look at our online resources or set up a technology training session with one of our staff members for one-on-one personalized help.
Set a Reading Amount for the Day
Challenge yourself to read for a specific amount of time each day or a certain amount of pages. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 pages, 10 minutes or an hour — any time devoted to reading will help meet your goals.
Use a Book Tracker or Reading Log
Whether you’re a pen-and-paper person or prefer digital trackers, keeping a running log of the books you have read or want to read can be beneficial. Plus, at the end of the year, you can reminiscence what you’ve read!
Book Sites and Recommendations
If you’re in a reading slump, book sites can help you find your next great read. Goodreads (which contains social features and can help with tracking your reading lists), Book Riot and the New York Times book section are solid go-to websites for book recommendations. You can also access NoveList through the library’s website, which provides personalized book recommendations just for you. Don’t forget to ask a library staff member for their help. They can recommend or find books that will get you closer to completing your reading goal.
Join a Book Club
Each of our library branches has book clubs that you are welcome to join at any time. There are book clubs for every age group and interest. Browse our list of book clubs and see which one is best for you.
Participate in a Reading Challenge
The library hosts various reading challenges throughout the year on Beanstack. Reading challenges can be a fun way to mix up your typical reading list and can break you out of your book comfort zone by introducing you to a new author or genre you typically wouldn’t be reading.
It’s a great way to have fun while also racking up completed books for the year. Check out our website and social media for reading challenges throughout the year.
