City Barbeque Food for Thought Series: Scarlett and Julie: Mythic Portrayals of Southern Women in the Golden Age of Hollywood

Join us at the Cold Spring Branch for the next talk in the City BBQ Food for Thought Spring Series as Dr. Andrea Watkins of the NKU History and Geography Department uses short clips and images from film classics like Gone with the Wind and Jezebel to explore the truths and myths perpetuated by Hollywood regarding the lives of women in the antebellum South. About the Presenter:
Dr. Watkins focuses on United States history to 1877. She enjoys teaching courses from the early colonial period through the Civil War, and she is well-versed in the history of Kentucky and the American South. Her research interests are focused on the Early Republic period of United States history, with an emphasis on nineteenth-century Kentucky, family and community life, and slavery.
