Adult Outreach Services
Our Outreach Department offers a variety of services to give homebound residents of Campbell County access to the library’s resources. Read about some of our adult outreach services below.
If you’d like to set up one of these services, call our adult outreach services assistant at 859-572-5035, ext. 352.
Book Buddies
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, look no further! Book Buddies is our service for permanently homebound adults in which library volunteers take books directly to those who are unable to visit the library. A volunteer receives a special “Book Buddy” library card, which the volunteer uses to check out library items for the outreach patron. We don’t charge fees or fines on items checked out under the card in order to allow flexibility of service.
This might be the volunteer opportunity for you if you:
- Like to read
- Enjoy people
- Have reliable transportation
- Are willing to volunteer at least 3-4 hours a month
If you are interested in becoming a Book Buddy or know someone who could use our services, contact our outreach services coordinator at 859-572-5035, ext. 350.
Book Talks
Our adult outreach services assistant is available to host monthly book talks at senior centers, adult day care facilities, retirement living homes and extended care facilities. This service differs from a book club in that no particular book is selected to be read by each participant. Instead, topics of interest vary and a presentation is given to educate attendees and encourage intellectually stimulating discussion.
Deposit Collections
Deposit collections are books loaned to nursing homes, senior centers and other community agencies throughout Campbell County. Collections of 20-30 items are specially selected for each site.
Deposit collections may contain an assortment of large print and regular print books, magazines, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs. These collections are delivered on a rotating schedule every four weeks, depending on the facility’s needs.
Home Delivery Service
If you are a resident of Campbell County and cannot visit the library because of temporary or permanent illness or disability, you are eligible for our home delivery service.
Materials available for delivery include regular print books, large print books, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks and CDs. Materials are selected based on your reading interests and special needs.
The adult outreach services assistant or a Book Buddy will deliver theSen materials to your home on a specified day. You may also sign up to have your materials delivered by mail for free.
Services from Other Agencies
If you are interested in signing up for any of the free services below or would like more information, please call our adult outreach services assistant at 859-572-5035, ext. 352.
Bi-Folkal Kits
Bi-Folkal Kits are multimedia collections designed to give older adults an opportunity to remember times past and to share their memories and experiences with others.
Each kit contains a collection of visual images, music, artifacts and activities to stimulate the senses of older adults. Bi-Folkal Kits can be used by activity directors for programming in groups or by individuals in visits with family and friends.
These kits are great for:
- Nursing homes
- Retirement centers
- Adult day care programs
These free to borrow kits are available courtesy of the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives. They can be reserved ahead of time to help you with your programming needs.
National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS)
Through a national network of cooperating libraries, NLS administers a free library program of braille and audio materials circulated to eligible borrowers in the United States by postage-free mail.
Kentucky Talking Books
Talking Book Service is available through the Kentucky Talking Book Library. This service is provided free of charge to anyone unable to read because of a visual or physical limitation. Thousands of books and magazines are available on tape for adults and children. Patrons may borrow Talking Book machines free of charge. Talking Book patrons receive catalogs that announce new releases and order forms. Applications for this service are available at our patron services desks.
